There are remarkable similarities and a lot of variations between the education practices in the U.S. and Nepal. For example, in the U.S., bachelor’s programs are no shorter than four years, however, in Nepal, we have 3-year as well as 4-year bachelor’s programs. Therefore, it is important to know the education system in the U.S. and to know where you fit in according to your skills and choices. The American education system extends the most distinct set of educational opportunities in the world. A foreign student who chooses to take advantage of the American education system can pursue anything that you wish to or prefer. American education possibilities are almost endless.

High School

A high school in the U.S. is grades nine through twelve. Moreover, every school is independent and students do not take board exams in the U.S. In general, a student who has completed Plus Two, A-Levels, PCL, Intermediate Level, or a similar program, can be compared with a high school graduate from the U.S. system.

Undergraduate Studies

In the U.S., Bachelor’s programs are no less than four years and are one form of ‘Undergraduate’ programs. Students who have completed twelve years of education, especially from Nepal are qualified to join undergraduate programs in the U.S. There is a name assigned to each of the four years of bachelor’s study i.e freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years.
There is a different form of undergraduate education in the U.S., which is the associate’s degree which is a 2-year degree acquired at a community college that usually serves a small community around them. Per year college tuition at a 4-year college is usually much less expensive than per year tuition.

Graduate Studies

In the U.S., Master’s and Ph.D. level studies are referred to as Graduate studies. A master’s degree is usually earned after two years of study beyond a 4-year bachelor’s program and a Ph.D. degree takes somewhere between four to eight years.
